Throughout my working life I have been a plumber, initially working in my own business and latterly for a Housing Association. Recently I retired and thus feel well placed to try to give something back to the community, serving on the Parish Council would, I feel, be a good way to do this. I am keen to help and support clubs and associations in Huish Episcopi / Langport and have been closely involved with the cricket club whilst my Son played for them over many seasons.

My wife and I have one of the local allotments, we keep bees and enjoy spending time tending the growing vegetables. My hobbies include observing wildlife and walking, I am also passionate about photography.

My aim would be to do all that I can in supporting our village of Huish Episcopi and the people that are lucky enough to live here.

I lived in the centre of Langport for over 30 years and in 2017 moved just up the road to Huish Episcopi. I have always been an active member of my local community, helping with many community projects and events such as the Walking Festival, Friends of Langport Library and the Langport & Area Dementia Action Alliance. I am also a trustee of two local charities.

I am now semi-retired after many years working as a Sales & Marketing manager. I was a Langport town councillor for almost 20 years, working hard with fellow councillors & Huish Episcopi parish council to provide better facilities for residents of both Langport and Huish Episcopi. I believe the two councils need to work closely to do the best we can for all our parishioners.

When I’m not busy you will often see me out walking with my dog, Norman, enjoying our fantastic countryside. We are always happy to stop for a chat!

I am married to Judith, whose father and his brothers originally owned what is now the ABP abattoir. My two daughters attended the Primary School (of which I was a governor), then moving on to the Academy where they both did well at what is a highly rated and successful school. I have been chairman of the local Round Table when there was a branch centred in Langport, and I now run my own vehicle leasing business in Yeovil.

Among a host of issues I am interested in what brings new residents to the developments in the Parish and how the infrastructure of Huish and Langport will be affected.

I worked for Plymouth City Bus for 5 years and later joined the Ministry of Defence in 1970, based at HM Naval Base Devonport, Plymouth. During my time there, I served two years on Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships.

Following a promotion and transfer to RNAS Yeovilton, in 1982 I moved to Huish Episcopi as the Motor Transport Operations Manager until I retired in 2005.  Immediately following my retirement from the MOD I started work in the Aerospace industry repairing Lynx helicopters, but I have now retired from full time employment.

In my spare time I was a football referee for over 30 years and I have been involved with, and Licensee for, the Memorial Field Social Club for some years.  Currently I am Vice Chairman of the Memorial Field Management Committee and also Chairman and Trustee of the Langportand Huish Episcopi Youth Group.

I moved with my husband Graham to Huish Episcopi in 1984, after 10 years’ service in the WRNS. Our girls were educated at the Huish Episcopiprimary and secondary schools and I was a governor for some time at both schools.

I was the Huish Episcopi Parish Clerk 1997-2018 and also worked part time at the Langport Surgery 2007-2013.  Now retired, I am an active grandmother while remaining very involved with a number of community organisations and a local church.  I was elected as a Parish Councillor in 2019 and re-elected in 2022.

Val Saunders

I am a long-term resident of Huish Episcopi and Langport, and have lived in the area for over 50 years. My 3 grown-up children attended Huish Episcopi Academy, as it is now known.

For 11 years I served as a Councillor on Langport Town Council, and as chair for three of them.  During that time LTC delivered the ’River Project’ of which I am very proud. I stood down in May 2022 and was elected onto Huish Episcopi Parish councillor at that time.

My ambition is to create one council for our diverse, amazing and expanding community.  I am passionate about our environment, locally and globally, and have been a long-term member of Transition Langport and Elderflowers Food Coop.

I have lived and worked in Somerset since 1963 and been a resident in Wearne since 1983. I am married to Beverly and we have three grown-up daughters. After retiring from Westland Helicopters, I joined Huish Episcopi Parish Council in 2002 and have served the interests of our community, especially Wearne and Combe residents, ever since.

Past involvements have been helping to keep the free car parking in Langport and sorting out the numerous issues for the Bartlett’s Elm roundabout which proved to be a great improvement for both traffic flow and pedestrian safety.  I have also been involved in the justification, selection of approved sites and purchase of a parish owned Speed Indicator Device (SID).  Currently we can operate in eight different sites to help support the two parish Community Speed Watch teams. This allows us to analyse the results at these different sites much more accurately.

I remain dedicated to serving to the best of my ability the whole community with the main objective for Huish Episcopi and Langport to continue to flourish and prosper.
